Benjamin Harrison Society educates the press and public about the scientific, educational, and technological aspects of educating students and the community. BHS supply needed information and advice -- good science education at local, state, national and global levels. Our members are students, historians, parents, scientists, teachers, clergy, and citizens with diverse affiliations.
A special issue of the I DIG HISTORY TIMES, a peer-reviewed electronic newsletter devoted to the discussion of teaching excellence in public, private and charter schools, colleges and universities, is devoted to the topic of teaching evolution in the classroom.
WHAT DOES I DIG HISTORY PROVIDES?
The BHS program engages in a number of activities advancing two primary goals: improving and supporting education in geography, engineering, archaeology, reading, and other sciences (GEARS), and increasing public understanding of these subjects. This work is supported primarily by membership contributions, with some additional assistance from grants. · I DIG History Times educates the public through print media, provides background material and curriculum updates. · Provides educators with a top-down view of where BHS stands today in geography, engineering, technology and science education and what this means for students and educators. · Aims to improve student performance in science, geography, engineering, archaeology and technology by bolstering the effectiveness of new middle and high school teachers by pairing the teachers and students with content area mentors.
