| About Us
The District of Columbia is dependent upon the success of agriculture, yet today, we are faced with bigger challenges than ever before. Over the last century, children have become further removed from the land that feeds and clothes us. In fact, only 2% of the population is directly involved in production agriculture and many children, when asked where food comes from, will reply "the grocery store!" With more than 50,000 students in District of Columbia Schools, it is essential that these children—the next generation of consumers, parents and decision-makers—grow up with an understanding of agriculture’s critical contributions to our society.
Goals
· Develop accurate, teacher-tested and scientifically sound classroom materials to enhance the educational experience of K-12 students in any learning environment.
· Provide programs and training opportunities to explore the sources of our food and other agricultural products, and how these daily necessities arrive from the fields to our own homes.
· Create awareness in classrooms and communities about the significance of agriculture in our everyday lives.
· Partner with like-minded organizations to share our appreciation of agriculture with a broad audience.
· Recognize teachers and students who work as advocates of agricultural literacy.
· Support the pursuit of agricultural careers and continuing education.
Our mission is to increase awareness and understanding of agriculture among District of Columbia's educators and students. Our vision is an appreciation of agriculture by all.
