About Benjamin Harrison's Pre-College STEM Program

The Benjamin Harrison Society STEM program embraces education, and research on all aspects of biodiversity, including the history of life on earth, the evolutionary mechanisms that generate diversity, the ecological context in which all life has evolved, and the consequences of interactions among organisms, including humans. Our professional mentors expertise ranges from bacteria to mastodons, from the tropics to the tundra, from the theoretical to the practical.

Research in our STEM program spans the full range of biological diversity from viruses to mammals, and includes understanding the diversity of organisms, discerning their history (comparative biology, and systematics, paleobiology), accounting for their characteristics (evolutionary processes), analyzing the function of their features (functional organismal biology), and understanding how organisms affect and are affected by environmental factors, including other organisms (ecology).

The Benjamin Harrison Society and Geography, Engineering, Architecture and  Science  (GEARS) Scholars program is proud to feature courses from various departments in the college of Literature, science, Mathematics, technology, engineering with an intergrated arts and humanities approach. These courses are unique in that they are classroom instructor lead with the support of our counselors and mentors and allowing for an intense, fun and memorable learning experience.
